Re-Usable Workout Blueprints

You can create a template in Plates once, say for a Push day (PPL):

  • Configure Everything: Set up your exercises, warmup, working, and drop sets with initial target values.
  • Begin Workout: When you’re ready to work out, simply select the template and Plates starts an active workout session with your pre-configured exercises and sets.

Template-Specific Memory

Another great benefit of using templates in Plates is if you have repeating exercises on multiple days, the template itself will remember what weight and reps you did last time when you started a workout from that specific template.

Example: Lateral Raises on Push vs. Pull Days

Say you decide to perform lateral raises on 2 different days (Push and Pull):

  • Pull Days: You typically manage to do 14kg x 10 reps.
  • Push Days: Your delts are more tired, so you manage 10kg x 8 reps.

Here Plates will know that when you start a Pull day it has to expect 14kg x 10 reps, and on Push days 10kg x 8 reps, as opposed to blindly expecting whatever value was last lifted, like so many other apps do.

Convert Workouts Ad-Hoc

Convert Workouts Ad-Hoc

You don’t even have to create templates manually in advance.

If you have had an empty workout session in the past where you added in sets and exercises ad-hoc, after completion you can simply tap the three-dot ellipsis menu and turn that workout into a template.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do workout templates work in Plates?

Templates act as re-usable blueprints for your routines. You configure your exercises, sets, and target values once. When you’re ready to work out, selecting the template instantly starts an active workout session pre-loaded with your routine.

How does template-specific weight memory work?

Plates remembers what weight and reps you logged the last time you used that specific template. If you perform the same exercise (like lateral raises) on both Push and Pull days, Plates tracks weights for Push and Pull routines independently.

Can I convert an ad-hoc workout into a template?

Yes. If you log a workout session ad-hoc without starting from a template, you can tap the three-dot ellipsis menu after completion to save that session as a reusable template.
